BUILDING OF KISTLER SPACE COMPLEX IN AUSTRALIA SUSPENDED
The implementation of plans of building a space-launch complex by Kistler
in Australia for the launching of commercial satellites has been suspended
because of financing shortages. As early as last July, the U.S.- based
corporation Kistler Aerospace held a special project- starting ceremony at
the construction site near the city of Woomera, South Australia To date,
construction has not at the complex, Australian Financial Review reported
on Monday. According to the newspaper, Spaceport Woomera, contractor of
Kistler Aerospace, was expected to finish the building of the launching
site and to test it before the end of 1998. However, it is still looking
for investors. A major part of investments was expected to come from Asia,
but the economic crisis intervened. Kistler Aerospace planned to invest in
Australia 45 million dollars. The stalled Kistler rocket launching
program at Woomera will not be given further financial assistance from the
South Australian government until the project goes ahead, the state said
Monday.
